JULIA TAFT PROJECT FOR THE YOUTH IN EGYEIKROM REFUGEE CAMP

ADRA Ghana since January 2017 has undertaken number of projects in Egyeikrom Refugees camp to empower the youth through the support and funds given by Julia Taft Foundation. The strategy of implementation includes direct involvements of the beneficiaries on procurement as well as purchases of all project items.

Youth in Agriculture

ADRA intends to complete all the project activities the second week in December. The only activity left is to smoothen and painting the surface of the game court, assisting PoC to grass around the court. We will continue to liaise with camp management to ensure that the project ends successfully.

LIBRARY & ICT CENTRE

An existing shed has been renovated and furnished to serve as a library and ICT Centre. The library has been also stocked with assorted French and English reading materials. Equipment and gadgets procured and used furnish the library and ICT Centre include: a brand-new 40” TV set, lap top, camera, and a projector.

MULTI-PURPOSE GAME CENTRE

A multi-purpose sports complex has been also constructed in Egyeikrom Refugee Camp. In consultation with the camp manager a piece of land was allocated adjacent to the camp school, and this was cleared and used for the construction of the game court. ADRA has assisted the beneficiaries to procure four setts of jerseys, trophies and balls.

Youth in Agriculture

Two acres of farm land acquired for a 10-year lease period was used for the cultivation of potatoes and okra within the first cropping season. Currently beneficiaries have cultivated groundnuts as their minor season crop on part of the field.
